What Type of Patio Set Is Right for You?

Most everyone wants to get outdoors to grill, relax with a cold drink or just sit around and chat. Depending on where this will happen...your deck, in the grass or just out on a cement slab, you will need just the right patio set. This outdoor furniture comes in many varieties, sizes, shapes, colors and with different accessories. You will have to decide what type will fit into your specific case: wooden, wicker, wrought iron, metal or plastic.

Wooden Outdoor Furniture

Wooden patio sets are made from different types of woods, such as oak, cedar, teak and shorea. Most of the woods have natural oils to help protect and preserve them from rotting, bug infestations and decaying from the elements. A nice thing about wooden patio sets is that you choose what color you want. There are many different stains available, if you prefer something other than their natural finish. If you have a dark theme to your patio area, you can select cherry stain; however, if you prefer the lighter colors, then an oak stain would be a good option. Since wood has such a variety of colors, you can mix and match, plus there are the varying degrees of finishes. Depending on your preference, you can choose between light, medium or dark finish.

Wicker Outdoor Furniture

Wicker patio sets are another option. Wicker is actually how the furniture pieces are woven together. The material is actually strong fibers used from willow, bamboo, reed, and rattan; however sometimes branches or twigs that are supple enough to be woven are used. In current times, the fibers are manufactured from plastics and then woven. These also come in various color options so you can find what matches your décor. A nice thing about wicker is that it will look nice indoors in a sun room or living room, as well as outside on your deck or out in your garden amongst flowers.

Recycled Plastic Outdoor Furniture

Recycled plastics are newer, long-lasting outdoor furniture. These patio sets are denser than wood and are extremely durable. The plastic prevents them from cracking, rotting, splitting and bug infestations. Since they are manufactured, there are many color choices so you can match them to any style décor you want. Being easy to clean, you can take them on picnics or to the beach and not have to worry about ruining them.

Wrought Iron Outdoor Furniture

Another type of patio set is made from wrought iron. This is a very strong metal that can add a fancy effect to your patio dining area. These have various color alternatives, but there are plenty in a lovely garden shade green. A mix and match of wrought iron and wood is another distinguishing look. It's up to you, but you can have the table top with the matching design in wrought iron, which is always a good decision. However, if you prefer, you can find them with glass tops. You really can't go wrong with any of these patio sets.

Metal Outdoor Furniture

Metal garden furniture is also a good option for your garden, patio, or deck. These patio sets come in different sizes and shapes. Depending on what you already have in your backyard area, you can choose from just about any color. These days, the metal stands up longer than what they used to do in regards to rust, because there is quality rust preventing paint than be used on the metals. The thing you have to remember is that in the sun metal gets pretty warm. To alleviate this problem, you can either pour cold water on the metal to cool it down or you can add pillows or cushions to keep your skin protected.

After you figure out what type of material you want your patio set to be made from, you will need to decide on what accessories to add. If you choose, then you can also add a patio umbrella for shade. Most of the patio sets come with pre-made holes to hold the umbrellas.

Depending on the size of your patio space, you will find that patio sets come in different sizes. There are also different patio pieces you can choose from an assorted number of chairs, table, benches, cocktail tables, or bar chairs and tables. No matter what you settle on, adding a good quality patio set to your backyard landscape can add color and beauty to your outside living space.
